Now that OTA-8.5 hotfix landed safely, the Ubuntu Touch devs are working around the clock these days to implement all the new features, package updates, and fixes that are required for the upcoming OTA-9 software update for Ubuntu Phone devices, due for release early in 2016, around January 20.
Therefore, all Ubuntu Touch developers are being informed that they need to get everything in place before January 5, 2016, when the feature and string freeze will take place. For this, they have only a few days before the Winter holidays start and everyone goes on vacation for approximately two weeks.
“The end-of-year holidays are getting near with everyone working as hard as possible to get all the required changes in for OTA-9,” said Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations. “Please remember that basically this week is the last sane week to submit your changes before the OTA-9 deadlines as next week many developers are already off. Also, the feature/string freeze is planned on the 5th of January.”
