Full Circle Podcast LogoThis is an extra, irregular, short-form podcast, which is intended to be a side-branch of the main Full Circle Podcast. Somewhere to put all the general technology, non-Ubuntu news and opinions, hobby-horses and general kipple that doesn’t fit anywhere else. Be prepared for a healthy dose of British sarcasm.

Opinion: Get Real, It’s in the Patent Pledge Small Print

1.56 | NEWS: Google I/O Announcements

Full announcements on the YouTube Google I/O Channel.

At last week’s Google I/O developers conference, we tried not to explode with excitement at the following announcements:

Chrome Web Store up, but empty.
– WebM, Google’s Open Video Format for HTML5, with overview.
– Google Wave is now open to everyone.
– Google Wave for Apps and New APIs.
– Google Storage for Developers.
– Google Buzz API released.
– Android 2.2 Froyo Is Lightning Fast.
– Google TV Set to Conquer the Living Room (no, really…).
– HTC Evo, the not-yet-released 4G WiMax phone.

12.58 | IT’S JUST AN OPINION: Get Real – It’s in the Patent Pledge Small Print

Here’s the original IBM patent pledge press release, and the original patent pledge document.

Commentary from Linux Foundation and Jim Zemlin’s blog-post on the whole IBM vs. Turbo-Hercules spat.

Alternate story source with the IBM rebuttal.

My blog-post on why the whining is pointless and has to stop.

  1. Are there any problems with the feed?
I can’t download it from iTunes…..on Mac of course, not Windows 🙂

  2. I can’t download the podcast. I’m asked for a password. Can someone take a look at it please.

Please keep up the good work, I’m looking forward to each new podcast.

  3. ah… trying to download the mp3 asks for a password from the ftp site… help! Cheers, Al

  4. Ah, that will be the difference between ftp and http! Doh! (red face)

    Apologies all, feed updated.

iTunes takes 24 hours to update, so we may be lucky and catch the latest overnight tonight. RC

  5. I had to stop listening after 7 minutes. Why bother doing a podcast about google and phones when you don’t even “do phones”? If all you’re going to do is bitch and moan for 18 minutes, maybe it’s best not only to leave it out of the main podcast but to keep your mouth shut.

Now THAT is 7 minutes I’ll never get back.

    • Jim,
It’s a shame we can’t all attend your charm school. Probably best you turned it off, it sounds like you need to get out more.

You were warned in the show notes and at the top of the show. Caveat Emptor! RC

  6. WOW what a breath of fresh air. Someone prepared to say what they really think and not just regurgitate the press release. Loved the short format, loved the cynicism, even better than the full podcast.
