03:50 | Since Last Time

• Jon - Hasn’t done much Geeking recently due to most of his gear floating across various oceans to their destination, Wellington – New Zealand. He’s been mainly packing lately.
• Les - Has been Geeking around with the his new 512Mb Raspberry Pi and some Arduino goodness. He also purchased an Archos 80 Cobalt which he got from Tesco on a cracking deal, although it’s not a Nexus 7 he is still really pleased with it and it’s performance. He’s also been engaged in Hacking his Boss’s Linksys Router and installing ddwrt on it.
• Tony - Hasn’t been up to much in the way of geeky stuff especially as he bought two tablets on the run up to Christmas, he visited the in-laws over Christmas. He did find the time to install Airdroid on his Nexus 7 after a recommendation from Les.
• Freaky Clown – Has just completed an Open Learning introductory course in Computing and Programming course run by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
• Olly – Went away to Newcastle for Christmas and New Year, taking just his Nexus 7 and his DSLR Camera as the ultimate test in can a tablet do all the tasks he would normally do with a laptop while travelling.  Apart from a few niggles with Google Drive not being able to create hyper -links within a document, it performed admirably.  He was going to talk about his adventures with Steam Beta but since installing the latest bleeding edge Nvidia Proprietary drivers which the Steam client requires, he’s hand no end of trouble with graphics to the point where his main box freezes before booting to the login screen.  Olly has also been listening back to all the old episodes of Full Circle Podcast to get some inspiration for new features and upgraded his Samsung Galaxy S2 to Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly build.

02:10 | Since Last Time

• Les - Has started a new job and is really enjoying it, he’s also moved away from Ubuntu and is now using Crunchbang Linux (a very lightweight distribution) and spreading the good word to others. He has also been playing around with his Raspberry Pi coupled with Arduino boards to make some interesting projects.
• Tony - Loved his 16Gb WiFi Nexus 7 that he just had to have the 32Gb HSPA + version when it was released just over a week after the last Podcast came out. There were a few teething problems including BBC Iplayer not supporting the Nexus 7 under 4.2 Jelly Bean and sorting out the APN Setting for Giff Gaff. He also attended the amalgamated Preston and Blackpool GeekUp Christmas Meal as did the other members of the Podcast.
• Olly - Ran into his first performance problem with his new Gnomebuntu install, trying to do a multi channel audio project in Audacity cause hard psychical lock-ups. He too hold out any longer and also purchase a Nexus 7 32Gb HSPA + Version like Tony. He also attempted one of the upgrade paths for Linux Mint to take him to 14 “Nadia” however it didn’t go according to plan as there were issues with Virtual Box which baulked the installation and in the end Olly had to do a fresh install.

Jon was supposed to be recording but at the last minute was called away to a teleconference which was related to the sad news that he will no longer be a full time presenter on the show, he will be moving back to New Zealand in the New Year. He may make an appearance on the show from time to time doing features and so on but due to the time difference it isn’t likely to be a regular thing.

• Phil left us a comment on the website “You talked about he Nexus and the Kindle Fire and talked about the limit of no SD slot. I have been turned onto the NOOK primarily the Nook Color. I have the original OS untouched in my nook and I boot to a full install of cyanogen mod 7 (android 2.3) on the SD card. I have the CPU overclocked to 1.2 GHz and I still have great battery life. I plan to move to cyanogen mod 10 (android 4) this weekend time permitted”.

• Tony recently purchase a Asus Google Nexus 7 and shares his first thoughts of living with the device with us.
• Cons:
  

  No option for removable storage

  WiFi only, No 3G or HSPA+

  PC Tethering/Data Transfer doesn’t work out of the box and requires a little tweaking.

• Pros:
  

  Apps for Google Drive and Dropbox available through Google Play make syncing files through WiFi easy

  BBC Iplayer works out of the box using the App in the Play Store.

  Makes a really good E book reader using the Kindle App.

• A better alternative to the Amazon Kindle Fire as it´s not locked into the Amazon Eco System.

• Takes you through the very basics of Object Oriented Programming using Java Script as a learning tool.

• Olly – Is considering getting back into producing videos for Youtube and looked with interest at the second part of the Kdenlive Series written by Ronnie on page 16. Considering his woes with ecrypfs back in August he decided to check out the Encyption How-To on page 13 to see if he could pick up any pointers.
• Tony – Unfortunately this month Tony has been rather busy with University and placement work he´s not had as much time to read the magazine as he’d like.
