Help The Graner Family

From Rikki Kite at Linux Magazine:

My friend and colleague, Amber Graner, lost her home to a fire this week. Luckily, the family wasn’t in the house at the time and no one was injured. Pete and Amber were at UDS, the kids were with relatives, and the dog was rescued from the fire.

Even if you have home-owner’s insurance, the immediate expenses add up as you scramble to get some necessities, including clothing, toiletries, food, and new housing. The Graner family is well-known in the open source community, and many of their colleagues and friends have expressed a desire to help them get back on their feet. I created a page for anyone who would like to chip in to help the Graner Family get some clothes and other necessities: http://granerfamily.chipin.com/the-graner-family

Every little bit helps.

Amber helps with the Ubuntu Weekly News and writes the Ubuntu News (among other things) in Full Circle. If you can, please donate something to Amber’s Chip-In page. As Rikki said, every little helps.

The next issue of FCM will be released when the contributions to the Graner fund rise.

Please donate, either that or something ‘nasty’ may happen to the next issue!

Full Circle Side-pod #5: It’s only a trademark

Full Circle Podcast LogoFull Circle Side-pod Episode #5: It’s only a trademark

In this episode, Linux Mint Debian Edition and the Open Learning Center.

Full Circle Podcast is also a proud member of the Tech Podcasts Network.

This is an extra, irregular, short-form podcast, which is intended to be a side-branch of the main Full Circle Podcast. Somewhere to put all the general technology, non-Ubuntu news and opinions, hobby-horses and kruft that doesn’t fit anywhere else. Be prepared for a healthy dose of British sarcasm.

News: Back-to-Mac announcements include something called Launchpad… which happens to be a Canonical Trademark.

Interview: Alan Lord of the Open Learning Centre

Review: Linux Mint Debian Edition

Ideas and writers wanted!

I’m trying out a new idea which I hope will make it easier for readers to suggest articles and for writers to get ideas.

LaunchPad

I’ve created a Full Circle project, and a Full Circle team, on LaunchPad. The idea being that non-writers can go to the project page, click ‘Answers‘ at the top of the page, and leave your article ideas, but please be specific with your idea! Don’t just put ‘server article’, please specify what the server should do!

Readers who fancy writing an article, but aren’t sure what to write about, can register on the Full Circle team page then assign article ideas to themselves and get writing! I would ask that if you can’t get the article written within several weeks (a month at most) that you reopen the question to let someone else grab the idea.

I hope that this will let you good folks participate more!  :)

Full Circle Podcast on YouTube

YouTube logoIn a bold (and some say rash) experiment, the Full Circle Podcast is on YouTube.

We’ve created a YouTube channel for the Podcast with two episodes.

  • Podcast Episode #11 in individual segments as audio-with-banner,
  • Side-Pod #4 in two parts: Part one is the news/opinion section, part 2 is our first Screencast of sorts with some visuals on using Audacity to assemble the podcast.

The reasoning of this is to audition some screen-casting tools (Kazam) and try out PitiVi and Openshot video editors (reviews to follow in the podcast/blog and maybe the magazine). I have a feeling we may be heading back to Cinelarra.

We’d like to do more screen-cast reviews and how-to’s if the interest is there. RC
