For the record, the article Photoshop > Gimp does not mean photoshop is greater than gimp, no matter what you math nerds say. It’s an article about transitioning from photoshop -> (to) gimp.

    That said. Gimp > Photoshop

Sorry to be a pain but I can’t login to the latest edition because I have forgotten my user name. I’ve tried to contact you via lists@… to no avail and I can’t find any other way of getting in touch.

    Can you please remind me.

    Thanks.

    Keith.

Then type that one extra keystroke and say “Photoshop -> Gimp” if that’s what you mean. :-)
“Photoshop > Gimp” means photoshop is greater than gimp. If you don’t mean it, but you say it, you’ve only yourself to blame.
…now to download and read the magazine so I have a clue what you’re talking about :-)

Ubuntu 7.10 – Firefox. I get this error message when trying to download the magazine:

    “XML tolkningsfejl: ikke well-formed adresse: chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/unknownContentType.xul linje 1, kolonne 7:Target(mimeSource, valueProperty, true);
    ——^”

Ronnie: sounds like your FireFox is trying to open the file (rather than save it). Try right clicking the link and doing ‘Save As’

Why is a direct link to the pdf files is not provided so that it can be downloaded using a download manager or by selecting Right-click -> Save Link As…

When I click on the link, it is opened in the embedded pdf reader of the browser. I need to then use File -> Save As.

I agree with tabrez – I always have terrible trouble accessing the magazine. Although it loads the embedded pdf reader, it doesn’t often load the magazine. I’d much prefer to right-click and download, then read offline.

But when I finally do manage to access it, it’s well worth the trouble! :)

Aha, just realised that if I use the Firefox “Uppity” extension to go to the server root directory, I can right-click the file and download it from there.

lg: For the record, the reason why we don’t provide direct links to the PDF is because it links to our download counter and stats system.

My suggestion then would be to provide another link through the same stats system but to a file with an extension other than .pdf.

When I download zip files from websites that use stat tracking, the file is still downloaded by the download manager. But because this is a PDF file, Firefox tries to open it within the browser.

So please provide two links: 1. view : linked to .pdf file
    2. download : linked to .zip file containing pdf file

    Thanks.

Haven’t been able to download Issue 6. Tried all evident links but to no avail. Most complicated procedure for viewing a magazine that I have ever seen.

Worth the trouble .. but at some point it may reach the tipping point of diminishing returns.
